Asian Games 2026: India Eyes Gold in Cricket and Hockey, Lovlina Wins Historic Boxing Gold

Aichi-Nagoya, Japan: The Asian Games 2026 have entered their decisive stage, with Indian athletes continuing to add medals across several disciplines. On October 2, India reached the final of men's cricket after a commanding victory over Sri Lanka, while the men's hockey team also booked its place in the gold-medal match after defeating Pakistan in a thrilling semifinal.

India Storm Into Cricket Final

India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the men's T20 cricket semifinal. India posted 169/7, with Ishan Kishan scoring an unbeaten 80 from 46 balls. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for just 45 in 9.5 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah took two early wickets, while Abhishek Sharma also claimed two wickets in the Sri Lankan innings. The result sent India into the gold-medal match, where Pakistan will be the opponent.

India vs Pakistan for Cricket Gold

India will face Pakistan in the men's cricket gold-medal match on Saturday, October 3. The final is scheduled to be played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, with the match scheduled for 10:00 AM IST.

Hockey Team Reaches Final After Thriller

India also secured a place in the men's hockey final after beating Pakistan 4-3 in a dramatic semifinal. Harmanpreet Singh scored twice, while Abhishek struck the decisive late goal to send India into the gold-medal match.

Historic Gold for India's Women's Archery Team

India's women's recurve archery team created history by winning its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the team event. Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Anil Mohod defeated South Korea in the final.

Lovlina Borgohain Wins Boxing Gold

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain won gold in the women's 75kg category after defeating China's Bao Ziyi 5-0 in the final. The victory made Lovlina only the second Indian woman to win an Asian Games boxing gold, after Mary Kom's 2014 triumph.

India's Medal Campaign Continues

India's medal tally continued to rise during the second week of the Games, with athletes winning medals in archery, shooting, wrestling, sailing, squash, hockey, boxing and other disciplines. The Asian Games 2026 are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

With the cricket and hockey finals approaching, Indian fans are now looking ahead to more gold-medal opportunities as the Asian Games move toward their closing weekend.
